Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel found himself in an unfortunate situation over the weekend, but his coach says he’s been a true professional.

Johnny Manziel and his entourage were involved in an altercation over the weekend which Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine called an “unfortunate” situation.

The altercation occurred around 2:30 a.m., when Manziel was approached by a fan.

During an appearance on ESPN’s Mike & Mike, Pettine said he would have preferred Manziel be in bed rather than out and about at the hour the incident took place.

“We’re never comfortable with guys being involved in incidents that late at night,” Pettine said, via Pro Football Talk. “There’s a saying in the league, ‘Nothing good happens after midnight.’”

While the timing was less than ideal, Pettine did say that Manziel has handled the situation as a true professional.

“I’ve had a talk with Johnny,” Pettine said. “He was very up-front with us and notified us immediately when it occurred. As far as in the building, he’s been a true professional, he’s done everything that’s been asked of him, but obviously this is something that’s unfortunate.”

Manziel has not been charged with a crime and he continues to say that he didn’t do anything wrong with the situation. So as long as his story holds up, it should not affect his standing with the team.

Of course, Brian Hoyer is clearly the guy in Cleveland, so the sitaution may not have changed a thing anyways.
