For the first time in NFL history, every team in a division is at least three games over .500 at the same time. That division is the AFC North and the Ravens, Browns, Steelers and Bengals are officially cementing it as the best division in the NFL this season. All four teams are in a virtual tie with seven wins, though the Cincinnati Bengals have a slight edge with having only three games in the loss column.
It also means that the teams in that division are going to have to keep winning to somehow take the division crown. It might still come down to tiebreakers in the end.
"“You’re going to have to win a lot of games to win the division,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said via the Ravens team site."
The history continues outside of the AFC North as there are now 16 teams with at least seven wins through 11 games, again the most in NFL history. Part of this history is due to the dismal records of the teams in the NFC South. While the AFC North teams are historically good and all tied over .500, the NFC South teams are all below .500 and it’s getting increasingly likely that the division winner in that division will win with a losing record.
The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints each have five games left to play, and with a record of 4-7 would need to win at least four of those to sit at .500 entering the playoffs.
