Buffalo Bills‘ running back Fred Jackson has beef with Cleveland Browns‘ safety Donte Whitner and some comments he made about the state of Buffalo’s NFL franchise.

Browns’ safety Donte Whitner seems to be the kind of guy who consistently misunderstands his role or his relevance in the National Football League. One example of many took place this past summer when Whitner took to Twitter to make fun of the Bills, his former team, about a possible move to Toronto.

This is not the type of issue we really need any players poking at in this tone, and certainly not a guy who gave himself a nickname. Not only did he give himself a nickname, he dubbed himself “Donte Hitner.”

C’mon. Sure, he does hit people hard, but he also doesn’t play safety well, so take from that what you will.

Anyhow, here is what Whitner said to poke at the Bills this past summer:

Clever.

So that is the context for comments made by Fred Jackson this week in advance of a key AFC game between the Bills and Browns. In short, the veteran does not appreciate Whitner’s attitude. From ESPN.com:

"“If you talk down to anybody, you can’t be respected. That’s just me, that’s how I feel about it,” Jackson said. “For him to say stuff about that, about people that we love in this organization, he’ll never get my respect for that.”"

Seems fair from Jackson, a guy rising to defend his organization. For his part, Whitner still does not believe he said anything wrong. Whichever side of this you are inclined to agree with, this beef adds extra intrigue to this weekend’s game between two surprise contenders in the AFC.
