Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Johnny Manziel spoke out about an incident this weekend in which his entourage reportedly beat up a man who approached him in a hotel lobby this past weekend.
Chris Gonos says that he just wanted a hug from Johnny Manziel. On Friday, Manziel spoke out and said that was not exactly the case in an altercation this past weekend that ended with Manziel’s entourage beating up Gonos.

As we knew he would be, Manziel has the power to be one of the biggest stories in the NFL without even playing on the field. That’s because of his inclination to have a good time, no crime in itself, and the potentially sticky situations that lifestyle presents.
That was the case with this incident, which reportedly took place around 2:30 A.M. Still, it’s not clear what exactly happened between Manziel and Gonos or why the situation escalated so quickly.
For his part, Gonos says that he was just an enthusiastic fan who wanted to give Manziel a hug upon spotting him in that hotel lobby. Johnny Football says there was more to the situation than that. As passed along by Mary Kay Cabot:
#browns manziel said the man who accosted him Friday night was "very intoxicated" and "very aggressive."

Note to self: “Aggressive Seeking Hugs” is a great band name and/or short story title.
#Browns manziel said (Gonos) "came at me, put his hands on me, was extremely aggressive"

#browns manziel said he and his roommate tried to diffuse the situation as professionally as possible.

#browns manziel's face showed no signs of having been "smashed, smashed," as Gonos claims it was.

In the end, this is not a good look for anybody involved. It is completely inappropriate to approach anybody, famous or otherwise, and put your hands on them, even if you claim good intentions.
On the other side of things, if the guy really was drunk, can’t you move him away without beating the pulp out of him? There is looking out for your guy, and then there is doing so with the use of excessive and unnecessary force.
All we know for sure at this point is that nobody handled themselves well.
