There’s no denying that Giannis Antetokounmpo, better known as the ‘Greek Freak’ of the Milwaukee Bucks is a bit raw. There’s also no denying that if he continues on his current path, he’s destined for stardom in the NBA as his unique size and skills have fans, coaches and scouts drooling with anticipation of what he can become.
On Saturday night the versatile Antetokounmpo showed off some of his ability which included an absurdly impressive Gyro Step which had jaws dropping to the floor.
With Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks on a fast break, the forward brought the ball up the floor himself though was met by a Detroit Pistons defender at the three-point line. He could have decided to pull up for a jumper, though the shot would have been extremely low percentage. He also could have passed the ball though he didn’t have much help and doing so would have all but stopped the fastbreak prematurely.
His lone option? Get to the basket. Only problem was the angle was cut off and getting to the rim was all but impossible. Or was it?
In a move that would make LeBron James blush, the ‘Greek Freak’ euro stepped from the perimeter and in three steps was able to go from behind the arc to a layup.
Seriously, you couldn’t even do that on a video game. Giannis Antetokounmpo is more than just the ‘Greek Freak’, he’s a freak of nature as such a move is relatively unheard of.
The way he cut through the Pistons defense as if it was butter – the body control – the length of his stride.
Hopefully his skills mature over the next few years because when combined with that type of athletic ability, you have a star born.
