A USC cheerleader was plastered on a hit by a Trojan player as he went for an interception against Notre Dame.

For some reason unbeknownst to me, there is a general assumption that standing anyplace on or near a football sideline is “safe”. Sure, perhaps that may ring true if you’re wearing full padding and looking at the play taking place in front of you, but what about those who have their back turned?

We’ve coaches, referees and even camera operators go down before and on Saturday it was a USC cheerleader who took a mighty fall.

During the Trojan’s 49-14 home win over Notre Dame, USC cornerback Jonathan Lockett felt he could beat wide receiver Corey Robinson of the Fightin’ Irish and hit his after burners in effort to grab an interception. The only problem? He was much too close to the sideline and after a push from Robinson promptly plowed into the back of an unsuspecting USC cheerleader.

The end result was not pretty as the young lady was smashed in a crushing blow, immediately sending her to the ground.

Thankfully she was quite the trooper as despite the powerful hit she hopped back onto her feet and looked as if she didn’t miss a beat.

Me? I’d probably be asking for a defibrillator if somebody ran into me full speed from behind.

Maybe she should try out for Notre Dame considering she looked to be more of a football player than most of the Fighting Irish’s roster.
