C.J. Spiller is eligible to return to practice on Wednesday as the Buffalo Bills hope the injured running back can make a return from his broken collarbone in Week 16. Spiller was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return and last played on Oct. 19.
Provided the former first round pick doesn’t have any setbacks he could help the Bills make a push for the playoffs if the 7-5 Bills are still alive by the time Spiller is eligible to return.
"“We’re hoping to see C.J. to start coming back,” coach Doug Marrone said Monday, according to the official team site. “That designation is coming up.”"
Spiller has run 69 times this year for 267 yards and zero touchdowns and caught 14 passes for 109 yards and one touchdown. The 27-year-old back has 3,308 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 68 games for the Bills who took him ninth overall out of Clemson in the 2010 draft.
He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season so he would love to have a game or two to show Buffalo and teams around the NFL that he’s deserving of a big contract and a bigger opportunity to show he can replicate the 1,244 yards he had in 2012 when he averaged six yards per carry.
