Just when you thought the Ray Rice fiasco couldn’t sink any lower, we finally get the full scoop from the only person whose viewpoint truly matters in this mess.
Rice’s wife, Janay Rice, spoke with Matt Lauer on The Today Show and revealed exactly what was behind that painful May press conference in which she apologized for her role in being treated like a punching bag by her husband, former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice.
At the 5:15 mark, you can see Rice’s comments from that disaster of a press conference where Janay Rice says, “I do deeply regret the role that I played in the incident that night.”
Meanwhile Ray Rice sat there and said nothing to amend that comment. He did nothing to say, “Oh hey, actually her role was just that of a victim. I’m solely to blame.”
Nope. Nothing like that. It’s almost like the whole thing was orchestrated, which is how Janay explains it. While she says the wording wasn’t precisely laid out for her, the team gave her a ‘general script’ with which to work.
What else is there to say? The lack of humanity in this response is appalling. If Steve Biscotti and Roger Goodell could actually feel human emotions, we’d say they should be ashamed, but that’s clearly not the case.
The second part of the Rice interviews is set to air on The Today Show on Tuesday.
