Just as quickly as it began it’s over as LeBron James has decided to stop doing his chalk toss during his pre-game ritual.
Before the season began, James asked fans if he should bring back his traditional tossing of the chalk which he’s done since he entered the league. There were times when James stopped tossing the talcum powder in the air, namely during a streak with the Miami Heat though he eventually returned to doing so.
However he wasn’t sure if he should continue the tossing upon his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is why he asked fans. They responded with an overwhelming yes and the Cavs even gave out packets of dust so fans too could toss the chalk with LeBron.
The experience will be short-lived though as James has decided to give up the ghost on such as he now has a different pre-game routine.
"LeBron James now shoots with teammates about an hour before the game and he has apparently stopped doing the chalk toss. Both items — the pregame shooting and non-chalk tossing — are part of a slew of changes James made last week. They worked."
So the point of this? Well, there really isn’t one.
We’ve seen professional athletes be very superstitious and when James was performing the chalk toss before games this season, the Cavs were struggling to put a win on the board. Now that he’s stopped, Cleveland has yet to lose a game so it seems as if he’s just riding the momentum of wins and doesn’t want to change anything up.
I’d venture to guess that at some point before the season comes to a conclusion we’ll see LeBron James dusting up everybody at the scoring table again.
