On Tuesday the Cleveland Cavaliers officially sent in their request to host the NBA’s 2018 All-Star game.
It seems like a win-win situation all around, right? Well, not according to LeBron James who apparently wasn’t thrilled with the Cavs decision as he doesn’t want the organization to hold the All-Star game. Why, you ask? Apparently the pressures that come with being LeBron James aren’t all that fun when you’re dealing with ticket requests.
“It would be too much for me,” James said following shootaround Tuesday. “It would be too much for me. I think it would be great for us to host it, but hopefully I’m no good in that year if we get it. I don’t want it. My family, friends — I don’t want it. Too much.”
Frankly, it’s difficult to blame LeBron James as participating in an All-Star game is difficult enough given the travel and media sessions. Having to do so in your hometown when you’re LeBron James though? That sounds like a rather painful scenario and one that nobody would really be envious of.
On the flip side it would be great for the city of Cleveland to host an NBA All-Star game as the revenue created by the weekend long event is vast. It also makes a ton of money for the team, money that the Cleveland Cavaliers could put back into the franchise which would only help LeBron James and his teammates.
Still, we see where James is coming from and understand his lack of enthuisuam for the Cleveland Cavaliers hosting an All-Star game in the near future.
