It’s been a dreadful season for the Oakland Raiders and while rookie quarterback Derek Carr has shown small flashes of brilliance, the signal caller has struggled along with the rest of the team.
In fairness to Carr, it’s not as if he’s been given much to work with so it’s difficult to put much (if any) blame on him for poor play. Still, he’s not playing that well and there have been whispers suggesting the Raiders could go back to veteran signal caller Matt Schaub to finish out the season.
Oakland Raiders head coach Tony Sparano denied such on Tuesday afternoon though suggesting it will be Carr who finishes out the remainder of the year.
“There hasn’t been really any thought about that,” Sparano said. “I didn’t get a lot of those questions [when the Raiders won], so there really hasn’t been a lot of that kind of thought. There was a thought about that in the fourth quarter of the game when I decided to do that and that was purely my decision to do that at that point. There was just no need to keep Derek out there at that point any longer. Give Matt an opportunity to go out there and let Matt play a little bit and that was that.”
While the Oakland Raiders would prefer not to have Derek Carr continue his struggles, simply put there’s not much benefit to sitting him at this point. The Raiders have nothing to play for outside of pride and Carr is your future. Oakland has already allowed Carr to learn in a burning kitchen so they might as well let him continue on the same path.
