Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher says fans have been ‘brainwashed’ to believe the SEC is college football‘s best conference.

When you think of the elite conference in college football, there’s a good chance you’re going to think of the SEC.

Yes, the SEC West isn’t as strong as the SEC East and yes, there are other conferences that have an impressive resume as well. But if push came to shove, most would suggest it’s the SEC who tops all conferences in college football.

The general assumption is that they’d be correct, though Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher believes those fans have been brainwashed by the media.

“Perception it is driven home out there. It’s amazing how you can brainwash somebody. If you’re not careful in this country, you won’t think for yourself. If you listen to news all the time, they’ll tell you what to think, how to think and why you do things. That’s why you have to make your own mind up, trust your own eyes and do it.”

Backing up Jimbo Fisher’s point is the fact that the ACC, Florida State’s conference, is currently 4-0 against the SEC.

Of course, that’s a relatively small sample size and nobody is suggesting the ACC is not worthy of high praise either. Still, the SEC has garnered its reputation for a reason. Does Jimbo Fisher have a point? It’s possible, simply because media can drive a viewpoint but there’s no denying just how deep and talented the SEC currently is.

It’s the current powerhouse conference and has been for some time. That can change but for now, it’s the SEC who will stay atop the NCAA, be it on reputation or not.
