According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, the Mid-American Conference has agreed to a four year contract extension that will see the championship game played in Detroit’s Ford Field.
Looks as if the MAC championship will continue to have a home in Detroit. The conference has signed a 4 year extension that will keep the game in Ford Field for the next few seasons.

So what exactly is the big deal about this? The MAC is not a power five conference, and virtually has zero national media appeal, despite its status as arguably the best pro football quarterback factory in the NCAA today, the commercial appeal lacks in comparison to powerhouse staples like the SEC or Big Ten.

The deal provides for a step in the right direction. Detroit is a major city, thus it presents the opportunity for slightly more national coverage than a championship game being played at a smaller venue in a smaller city.
What also helps the case of this conference, at least for the future is the emergence of a premier football program with Northern Illinois University. Including this 11-2 campaign, they have now won double digit games in each the last 5 seasons.
