The Los Angeles Angels are wanting to trade pitcher C.J. Wilson and have interest in signing James Shields or Max Scherzer.

More from Los Angeles Angels

It seems as if the Los Angeles Angels are never satisfied with their roster and more of the same suggests such today as Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports the Angels are looking to trade pitcher C.J. Wilson.

Brought over from the Texas Rangers on a massive contract a few years back, Wilson, while not terrible, hasn’t lived up to his projections and it appears his time in Southern California may be coming to an end. Assuming the Angels are able to trade C.J. Wilson, they’ll need to replace his spot in the starting rotation and seemingly have their eyes on James Shields or Max Scherzer.

"Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson is available in trade, rival GMs say, causing some to wonder whether they might be trying to set things up for a big run at a bigger pitcher, either via free agency (Max Scherzer, James Shields) or trade."

While there will certainly be teams willing to trade for Wilson, they’re not going to do so at his current salary so the Los Angeles Angels will need to pick up a significant portion of his deal if they’re going to trade him. Given that, it seems rather odd that they’d also be willing to pay for either James Shields or Max Scherzer though we’ve seen the Angels do some strange things regarding money before, so you can’t put it past them.

Still, it seems like a bit of wishful thinking.

That said, the Angels are routinely in the thick of things in the American League West and would be a solid destination for any pitcher looking for a potential playoff birth on a yearly basis.
