It seems safe to say that New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith needs all the help he can get.
He received that on more than one occasion today as not only did the signal caller end up under throwing a route which shockingly turned into a touchdown, he also completed a pass on what might be one of the luckiest catches of the season.
With all of his wideouts covered by the Minnesota Vikings defense, Smith looked towards Chris Owusu (who recently came off the practice squad) who like his teammates was also covered. Yet, somehow, he ended making an absurdly lucky and rather difficult catch.
As Owusu went up to make the prospective grab, he was hit by a Vikings defender and in turn spun around from the impact. The ball then popped into the air and as Owusu fell to the ground, the ball landed right in his stomach as he sat atop the Vikings defensive back.
Unable to defend the falling ball, the Vikings player simply had to allow the Jets receiver to secure the catch.
It’s a hell of catch for any player in the NFL, let alone a guy who just came up from the practice squad. Pretty sure he’ll remember that one for the rest of his career.
