If the Los Angeles Dodgers trade Matt Kemp, a report suggests the San Diego Padres are the favorite to land the former All-Star outfielder.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

With an influx of talented (and expensive) outfielders on their roster, the Los Angeles Dodgers know they need to make a trade. Neither Joc Pederson nor Yasiel Puig are going anyplace, leaving Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford as the most likely to be dealt.

Ethier has already informed Los Angeles that he wants to be traded if he’s not starting, though his value is all but zero given his salary and struggles. The same could be said regarding Carl Crawford to a lesser extent leaving Matt Kemp as the outfielder with the most trade value.

Last week rumors broke stating the Dodgers and San Diego Padres were discussing a trade involving the former MVP candidate who has fallen off in recent years. Now Bob Nightengale believes it’s the Padres who are the favorite to land Kemp as they’re the “most likely destination” for the outfielder.

While the addition of Grandal would be a solid move for the Los Angeles Dodgers, it’s not known what type of money would be exchanged (Kemp is signed at least five more years with $160 left on his contract) nor is the name of the additional player known. Given that it’s difficult to tell who would be getting the better end of a deal, which at this point still seems to be prospective in nature.

It’s also a little odd to see inner-division trades, especially with a player with Kemp’s name stature, but his struggles and contract make finding a willing trade partner difficult.
