A blocked shot from K.J. McDaniels during a Philadelphia 76ersToronto Raptors game gave a female fan a concussion.

If you attend a Major League Baseball game, you constantly need to be on your toes because a foul ball could come your way and ruin your day.

You don’t really have the same concerns at a NBA game, unless you’re sitting courtside and have to deal with a 225 lb speeding towards you. Alas, if you’re sitting a few rows up, you should have no worries about getting injured by an on-court play, right?

Not exactly as a woman found out during a recent Philadelphia 76ers-Toronto Raptors game.

It all began with Raptors point guard Greivis Vasquez attempting to drive the lane. That’s when K.J. McDaniels, coming over from the weak side, unleashed a ferocious block which made its way well up into the stands like a GPS guided missle.

Before the ball came to a rest, it apparently smacked an unsuspecting fan in her face/head leading to a concussion.

“I surprised myself,” McDaniels said of the block. “There was a lady who got hit by the ball who got a concussion, I believe.” McDaniels, being the nice guy that he is, sent flowers to the injured woman.

Some around the league aren’t a big fan of the emphatic blocked shot considering it often results in the offensive team getting the ball back, but you can’t always snatch the ball out of mid-air. Yes, that would be the preferred hope as it would result in an automatic turnover but if you can’t grab it, smack it into oblivion.

That’s exactly what K.J. McDaniels did.

So if you happen to be sitting within 30 rows of the court during a Sixers game this season, I’d bring a helmet and shoulder pads.
