Fauria’s newest ankle sprain came in the first quarter of the Lions 34-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Surprisingly, he came back to the game in the second half and made his first touchdown reception of the season, but he was in obvious pain after the game. On Wednesday, the Lions made the decision to place Fauria on injured reserve, ending his season.

Per the Detroit Free Press

"“It will only make my future success that much sweeter,” Fauria wrote on Instagram. “Trust I’m going to come back the best I’ve ever been.”"

Fauria had already missed six games at the start of the season due to an ankle injury he sustained when he fell at home chasing his peeing dog down the stairs. He ended up playing seven games this season and finished with six receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown. Fauria was a factor for the Lions last year, catching 18 passes for 207 yards, but injuries sidelined most of his 2014 season.

In a corresponding roster move, the Lions signed tight end Kellen Davis to a one-year contract. They will likely lean more heavily on rookie tight end Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew.

Davis has been on the Lions roster before, in October and November. Out of Michigan State, Davis has primarily played as a blocker in his last seasons, including last year with the Seattle Seahawks where he was only targeted four times and made three receptions for 32 yards. He has not caught a pass for the Lions yet.
