DeSean Jackson of the Washington Redskins posted a picture of his “I can’t breathe” cleats which he may wear this weekend against the New York Giants.

While we’ve seen a significant amount of athletes (both in the NBA and NFL) wear “I can’t breathe” shirts over the past few days in support of Eric Garner, it appears as if Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson will take things a step further.

The Pro Bowl talent has not confirmed that he will wear them on the field this weekend, but Jackson posted a picture of custom “I can’t breathe” cleats on his Instagram account.

It’s well documented the NFL has an extremely strict uniform policy and have officials at the game just to monitor such who will often force players back into the locker room to properly attire themselves if they attempt to get cute.

If DeSean Jackson is to wear the customized cleats on the field this weekend, there’s no doubt the NFL will do what they can to keep them off the field. Of course, unless they forcefully take them off the feet of Jackson or issue a suspension, it’s hard to imagine the wide out not deciding to wear them.

The last thing the NFL wants is more bad press and if they were to heavily fine or suspend Jackson for wearing the cleats in honor of Eric Garner, that’s exactly what they would get. Clearly, they’re between a rock and a hard place (in regards to enforcing their rules) and will likely do whatever they can before Sunday to convince Jackson to leave the cleats in his locker.

That seems rather doubtful though knowing what we know about DeSean Jackson and his personality.

Hopefully the wide receiver runs out of the tunnel in his new cleats this weekend.
