Kobe Bryant, the point guard?

Seems a little odd to say considering outside of some small stints at small forward, the Black Mamba has played his entire career at the shooting guard position. However with the Los Angeles Lakers dealing with the loss of Steve Nash and sub par play of Jeremy Lin, head coach Byron Scott is considering making Kobe Bryant his starting point guard.

It’s a topic that Scott has already brought up to Bryant who seems receptive to the idea.

"“I even talked to him about it,” Scott said. “I said, ‘I’m thinking about it, but I’m not there yet.’ So yeah I have thought about it.”It’s all the same to Bryant, who said after the win that “nothing changes” when he plays point guard. […] “Just my position on the floor changes,” he said. “That’s all.”"

Considering Kobe Bryant often has the ball in his hands, it wouldn’t be a big change for the All-Star. Of course, how it impacts his game would likely be determined in regards to how the Lakers employ Bryant at the point guard position. Will he direct the offense like a traditional one guard? Or will he simply pass the ball off when he crosses the mid-court line and run off screens as he so often does at shooting guard?

Scott said he expects Bryant to see some time at point guard in the next few Los Angeles Lakers games before deciding if he’ll make an official switch.

The hope is that Kobe Bryant will not only be able to get his own shot, but his court vision will allow him to make those around him better considering he’ll be in control of the offense.
