When he’s on his game, Lance Stephenson of the Charlotte Hornets is a damn good basketball player. He’s also a notorious irritating gnat on the basketball court, not so much because of his game but more because of his antics. Just ask LeBron James about the ear blowing.
That’s not something Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics is apparently down with as during their matchup on Wednesday night, Rondo decided to let his feelings for Stephenson be known – with an elbow to the face.
It all started halfway through the third quarter with the Hornets nursing a one-point lead.
Lance Stephenson made his way up the court where he eventually got within striking distance of Rondo. That’s when the former Kentucky guard decided to raise his elbow and plow it right into the grill of Stephenson who immediately and understandably fell to the ground.
If there’s a silver lining for Lance Stephenson it’s that Rajon Rondo could have unloaded his dirty elbow with much more force if he so inclined, so it appears as if the Boston Celtics guard was simply doing nothing more than attempting to send a message.
Of course, a harder elbow would have likely resulted in a significant suspension though he’s likely to sit for at least a game considering the NBA hands out automatic suspensions for an elbow to the head/face region.
Clearly there’s a bit of bad blood there, though Rajon Rondo isn’t the only player around the league irritated with Lance Stephenson. That said, irritation or not, it doesn’t give a right to throw an elbow like that.
