It’s not known if ‘retired’ center Jermaine O’Neal will return to the NBA this season, but if he does he’ll have no shortage of suitors interested in signing the veteran.
O’Neal, who most recently played for the Golden State Warriors before deciding to hang up the sneakers for the first few months of the season has been contemplating a comeback in recent weeks.
Only problem? Nobody knows what team he’s interested in playing for, assumning he is to return which is not a foregone conclusion. Still, if he is to announce a ‘comeback’, multiple teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors want in.
They won’t be alone according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
The most likely scenario here is that Jermaine O’Neal simply didn’t want to go through yet another training camp and early grind of a season. With those now passed, O’Neal can now get a better perspective as to what teams he considers a contender for the NBA title and allign himself properly, assuming the said team is showing mutual interest.
Many believed this was something fellow veteran Ray Allen was and could still be doing, though it seems more likely that O’Neal would be the first to return between the two players.
No matter where Jermaine O’Neal signs, assuming he does, he won’t be much more than a big body off the bench though sometimes that’s all a team needs to push them over the hump.
