NFL Team In Los Angeles Appears To Be ‘Inevitable’

According to a recent Pro Football Talk article, it might be only a matter of time before we see an NFL team relocated to Los Angeles.

It feels like something that is long overdue. The National Football League has not had a team play a meaningful down of football (or any for that matter) in Los Angeles since 1994. It is a little strange to think that 20 years have passed since then.

Well, sources deeply involved in the situation have come forward, albeit anonymously, and stated their notions on the matter. Kevin Acee, of U-T San Diego was told the following.

“There is no way we’re sitting here next year and there’s not a team moving. I’d be shocked.”

Three teams have been repeatedly circled as the potential teams for relocation; the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, and St. Louis Rams. Reports also indicate that not one, but two of the three franchises could indeed find their way into the nation’s second largest market.

Should history play into the possible decision, the Rams and Raiders would appear to be the favorites, as both were the original teams from the post-1994 relocation. However, only one of said franchises has any business leaving town for LA.

St. Louis, while not the greatest market for professional football (Baseball and Hockey are a much different story), has not only won a championship within the last 20 years, they are one of two NFL teams within the state of Missouri. California already holds 3 teams with San Diego, Oakland, and San Francisco. Considering how poor the conditions are Qualcomm Stadium, the Chargers desperately want to leave. Pair that with a shorter move with regards to distance, and it makes perfect sense.

Oakland would also appear to be a no brainer as far as NFL relocation. The franchise is deeply in need of a change and what better way to reinvigorate it than a complete change in scenery? If owner Mark Davis ever comes around to relocating the team, it would provide for an interesting inner LA NFL rivalry, and give the market a stable relaunching point with a historically rich team backing it.

Lastly, we will just come out and say it. The state of California (or any state for that matter) does not need 4 different football teams.
