Late last week, reports of an unnamed source within the Chicago Bears organization suggested the team had “buyers remorse” in regards to the mega contract they handed out to quarterback Jay Cutler.
That “unnamed source” quickly was discovered though and it was shockingly offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer who eventually gave a tearful apology. That wasn’t enough for Cutler though who is said to be hurt from the criticism.
"Rapoport added that Cutler was stung by Kromer’s criticism, but — as the quarterback said Friday — knows he needs to play better or he could be shipped out of town.“He was hurt,” Rapoport said. “Talking to people close to Jay Cutler, he was definitely hurt by this. A little stung and certainly surprised that Aaron Kromer would do something like this."
Why Kromer felt he could say something like that without it getting back to Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears organization is beyond me, though in fairness to the offensive coordinator he wasn’t really saying anything most aren’t thinking.
There’s no denying that Jay Cutler has not lived up to his contract, though it’s rather alarming when your offensive coordinator is the one taking shots at you and likely speaks to a bigger problem within the Chicago Bears’ franchise.
For now it appears the two are playing nice though you have to wonder how much longer that will last considering the amount of animosity that is likely built up between the two. Might we be watching the end of Jay Cutler’s tenure with the Chicago Bears? Or perhaps is Aaron Kromer going to be on his way out?
