Report: Melky Cabrera Signs With Chicago White Sox
According to Bruce Levine on Twitter, the Chicago White Sox have just acquired free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera.
This MLB off-season is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. There are plenty of high-caliber players leaving for different organizations. There is a wonderful mix of rebuilding, payroll stuffing, and fire-selling; all setting up another wonderful season of baseball’s Winter hot stove.

The big winners this off-season appear to be Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.
Boston completely revitalized their line up with the signings of Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez, who is in his second stint with the club. The Cubs, meanwhile, have acquired the ace their rotation had been missing for years now. Jon Lester will lead a revitalized young Chicago team that is poised to make a serious run in the NL Central.
One cannot help but feel that this squad has the same look as that young Washington Nationals squad coming off it its second NL Eastern division title in 3 years.
Not to be outdone, however, is that other Chicago team; the one from the Southern side of town. The White Sox have already strengthened their pitching core with the signings of Jeff Samardzija, Zach Duke, Adam LaRoche and David Robertson. The remaining question mark was line up potency. And while it might not be a complete fix, the acquisition of OF Melky Cabrera certainly helps, as does 1B/DH Adam LaRoche.
The White Sox now have a dangerous lead off hitter that can hopefully provide a guy like Jose Abreu with more RBI opportunities.
The length of the deal is known currently to be 3 years, however, the salary is still undisclosed, though reports have it roughly in the $42-$45 million range.
