The Arizona Cardinals have seen their QB situation turn so dire that they are reportedly considering packages for rookie QB Logan Thomas.
It’s been next man up for the Arizona Cardinals all season, but one has to wonder how many men remain beyond the current squad. Coach Bruce Arians is hoping he won’t have to find out how deep the well runs under center as the Cardinals look to secure home field advantage in the NFC playoffs. For now, Arians could be forced to start a rookie against arguably the most imposing defense in the NFL.

Cardinals beat writer Darren Urban tweeted that the Cardinals are already preparing packages for 4th round draft pick and rookie QB Logan Thomas out of Virginia Tech. After backup quarterback Drew Stanton fell with injury in the team’s Thursday night win against the St. Louis Rams, Ryan Lindley stepped in with little fanfare, which has likely prompted the staff to explore all options to stir up some offense against a team that’s allowed 7 points/game in the last month.
While Lindley poses the safer bet at quarterback given his experience, Thomas has the higher upside given his bigger arm. Unfortunately Thomas is raw as red meat and hardly a safe bet on the road against the Seattle Seahawks in the teams’ scheduled Week 16 game. If Thomas does play, expect it to be limited situations that involve high percentage passes. Anything else would be downright reckless against the Legion of Boom.
We’ll have more updates as the week progresses, but for now expect to see a bit of each of Arizona’s third and fourth string quarterbacks in the mix as the team puts its ‘next man up’ mantra up against the most difficult test yet.
