Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton has been diagnosed with a sprained ACL and MCL as the NFL playoff race heats up.

More from Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals received some good news today when they learned that backup quarterback Drew Stanton was diagnosed with a sprained ACL and MCL. That was much better than what the injury appeared to be, but it is still unknown how much time he will miss moving forward with the playoff race beginning to heat up.

Stanton was already filling in for starting quarterback Carson Palmer, who went down a few weeks back with a torn ACL. The Cardinals can only hope that Stanton will be able to get back on the field quickly, or else their chances of winning the first seed in the NFC will take a bit of a hit with the Green Bay Packers playing excellent football of late.

Obviously this still isn’t great news, but it is far better than him tearing an ACL or MCL and missing the remainder of the season without a doubt. Stanton may not be back anytime soon, but there is also the possibility that he is back on the field under center in the next couple of weeks. Only time will tell when the Cardinals can expect to get him back.

Needless to say, this is a disappointing end to what has been a great season to this point. Arizona has been waiting to have a season like this for quite some time, and now injuries are threatening to take it away from them at the end. They just have to continue fighting and battling the injuries in the meantime.
