The Wall Street Journal has an interesting profile on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and his trash-talking skills. It is more about Luck not trash-talking though, and instead complimenting his opponents after a big hit.
“In all the years I’ve played football I have never heard anything like it,” said Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. “Nothing even close.”
“He’s yelling ‘nice hit, nice hit!’ and we’re like ‘uh, no one else does this,’” Redskins linebacker Trent Murphy. “His idea of trash talk is complimenting people.”
But it seems to be working.
“You know if you hear a quarterback get mad, you are in his head,”defensive back Nolan Carroll said. “With Luck, you thought you hurt the guy, you hear ‘good job’ and you just say ‘aw, man.’”
Luck didn’t comment on it but his father said it might be more about how he was raised. Oliver Luck said he and his wife taught their children to be kind and generous and he guesses that carried over to the field.
Still, in a world that lacks sportsmanship or kindness between people in general, it is nice to see Luck being a positive role model in his own way.
