The Sacramento Kings are expected to get star DeMarcus Cousins back this week after missing time with a scary case of viral meningitis.

It’s been 9 games since the Sacramento Kings last had potential All-Star and MVP candidate DeMarcus Cousins on the floor.

That’s set to change as the big man is expected to return for Thursday’s home contest against the Milwaukee Bucks. That’s the word from Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee who says the Kings expect Cousins on the floor though will monitor his minutes in the process.

Cousins has been out since late November dealing with a severe case of viral meningitis which left the Kentucky star hospitalized in the process. Originally it was thought that DeMarcus Cousins was dealing with a routine cold/flu virus but after returning to practice and feeling ill, the Kings sent Cousins to the hospital.

When he does return, DeMarcus Cousins will be playing under a new head coach as the Sacramento Kings shockingly fired Michael Malone on Sunday night. Cousins was a strong supporter of Malone and will yet again but playing under another new head coach as assistant Tyrone Corbin will be given the interim status.

Rumors have suggested the Kings will pursue legendary NBA coach George Karl who worked with general manager Pete D’Alessandro and special advisor Chris Mullin in the past.

Some have speculated the Kings, who were 9-6 (and had played the most difficult schedule in the NBA during that time period) wanted to fire Malone before Cousins return considering it would be far more difficult to fire a coach who was winning.
