Not to be outdone, Pacquiao has finally given his retort on the matter. When approached by the Detroit Free Press, the sport’s first and only 8 division champion had the following to say. “He has reached a dead end. He has nowhere to run but to fight me. I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight. But I doubt if he’s gonna engage me in a slug fest. You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not all, induced us to sleep.”
Much has been made about the inability of these two to come to terms on a bout. Ever since 2009, fans have been dying to see a match up that could potentially determine who the greatest boxer of our generation truly is. Many speculate that this hypothetical fight could gross the highest pay per view total in the history of combat sports.
“Mayweather can get the amount he wants. As early as January this year, I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight. This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy and, above all, this is for the good of boxing,” Pacquiao stated.
Should financial issues no longer matter, there is only the issue of agreeable drug testing conditions. It has been nearly 6 long years now that the world has waited for this fight to happen. It feels like it could be the real deal this time, but then again that has repeatedly been said before. Only time will tell with these two.
