LOSER: NFC South

It’s like a game of “hot potato” in the NFC South, as nobody really wants to win this thing.

Worse still, the utter ineptitude has given the NFL an opening to expand the playoffs, as reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortenson.

I’ll go on record as saying this is a horrible idea, as is the idea of re-seeding the playoffs which CBSSports.com’s Will Brinson reported as well.

This is all the NFC South’s fault because as bad as they are it has given the owners an excuse to mess with one of the better playoff formats in sports. Do we really want nearly every team in the post-season like the NHL or NBA? How meaningless are their seasons? Do we really want to overreact because of one bad season—just two in the last 50 years at that—and risk messing up what has been an enjoyable format?

We’re off topic though, and ultimately, the NFC South is just terrible. Carolina is on top because they managed to find a win against a more awful Tampa Bay team while Atlanta lost to Pittsburgh, as expected. New Orleans plays Chicago tonight and just thinking about that debacle will make your head hurt and eyes bleed.

This is a bad division.
