Greg Monroe is said to be interested in being traded and the Detroit Pistons are reportedly demanding a first-round draft pick in exchange.

More from Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons had all offseason to trade Greg Monroe but for whatever reason decided to allow the former Georgetown product to sign a one-year qualifying offer.

Perhaps they felt the disconnect between both sides could be repaired and convince Monroe to sign a long-term contract, but not even two months into the season it appears as if the big man is ready to leave Motown.

That’s the word from SportingNews who says Greg Monroe wants to be traded though he won’t come cheaply as it’s being reported the Pistons are adamant a first-round draft pick come their way in such a deal.

"According to NBA rules, Pistons forward Greg Monroe is now eligible to be traded. And, sources told Sporting News, he wants that, badly. But teams seeking Monroe will need to cough up a first-round pick, and that’s a sticking point."

While it’s not known what type of first-round pick the Detroit Pistons are seeking, it’s presumable that they’re looking to obtain a lottery pick. That’s a pretty hefty demand considering Greg Monroe will become an unrestricted free agent at season end and will be free to sign with any team he chooses.

Given that it seems as if the only type of team who will trade for Greg Monroe is one who believes they have a fair shot at re-signing the big man or one who wants to roll the dice and hope Monroe wants to return. That’s a pretty risky move though and one you’d believe a lot of general managers would pass on considering the value the Pistons (understandably) want in return for Monroe.

This sounds like a scenario that could take months to unfold.
