A free agent at season end, Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies is set to draw significant interest if he hits the open market.
The Grizz are said to want Gasol back and the feeling is supposedly mutual. Considering that, it would be mildly shocking if Pau Gasol’s younger brother doesn’t re-sign with the Beale Street Bombers. If something changes though the Toronto Raptors might want in as they’re said to covet the big man according to the Globe & Mail.
"A player that increasingly intrigues Raptors management is Memphis centre Marc Gasol. The Spaniard is a free agent this summer. The greatest lack on the Raptors roster is a truly dominant big man. Gasol is a Jungian figure that features prominently in GM Masai Ujiri’s bedside dream diary."
Of course, if Marc Gasol does hit the open market the Toronto Raptors are just going to be another big in a cramped pond as pretty much any NBA team with salary cap room will be reaching out to sign the center.
Not all will have the same benefits Gasol could experience with the Raptors though as he’d be joining one of the best teams in the NBA (at least currently) and with the Eastern Conference so top heavy, he’d likely have a very good shot to go deep in the postseason for the next few years.
Will that be enough to sway him out of Memphis or from signing with a different team? That remains to be seen though it sounds as if the Toronto Raptors will show interest in Marc Gasol if he becomes available.
