A lot has been said about Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins over the years.

Yes, he’s shown himself to be overly emotional on the court though the former Kentucky star has never been in trouble with the law and routinely goes out of his way to help those he cares about. He’s donated his own money to victims of natural disasters in Alabama and routinely provides funding to local animal shelters.

He also puts on an annual shopping spree for local children in which he plays “Santa Cuz”. This year was no different as for the third year in a row, Cousins gave a bunch of local students $200 dollars each to spend at a Sacramento based Wal Mart.

Cousins has been sick since late November with a nasty case of viral meningitis and has yet to return to the court (he’s expected to return on Thursday) since that time. It also forced him to delay the shopping spree but once he was given a clean bill of health, the event was back on and Cousins in his Sacramento Kings Christmas inspired hat was there to hang out with the children.

Of course, DeMarcus Cousins isn’t the only athlete who is putting on a local shopping spree for children and all those doing so deserve an equal amount of praise.

Very cool for the players, most of whom don’t attempt to publicize the events, to put these type of events on. It’s something the kids involved with will always remember and it really brings the player and community together.

Earlier this week, Kyle Lowry of the Toronto Raptors also put on a shopping spree for local children as well.
