While the New York Yankees have been linked to some of the bigger free agents available this offseason, they haven’t really entered the bidding process.

More than that they’ve also lost some of their own free agents like pitcher Brandon McCarthy who decided to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Needless to say a year after breaking the bank, the New York Yankees are playing more of a conservative role, something that isn’t sitting well with some fans nor Big Apple media. That includes the New York Post who trolled general manager Brian Cashman and the entire organization with a recent cover.

Pictured was the Yankees GM being held by Santa Claus as he ā€œaskedā€ for starting pitching.

It’s actually a relatively amusing photoshop on behalf of the New York Post, though in fairness to Cashman and the Yankees they essentially shot their wad last season with the signings of Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran and Masahiro Tanaka.

Granted Cashman deserves blame for throwing so much money at questionable acquisitions which have impacted his inability to sign players this offseason. Still, it’s not as if the pitching market is dripping in talent and arms like Jon Lester, James Shields and Max Scherzer are all going to be contracts most teams will regret paying in a few years.

Ironically enough, it’s the New York Yankees who are seemingly avoiding the franchise weighing down contract which they’re normally happy to hand out.

Thankfully there are some some solid, rather cheap arms available on the open market so it’s likely the Yankees will find an additional arm or two for their rotation before everybody is scooped up.
