Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler admits he feels bad for New York Knicks forward and former teammate Carmelo Anthony.

More from NBA

After Tyson Chandler was traded by the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks this past offseason, he had the opportunity to recruit his former teammate to Big D. He decided not to make an extended push in doing so, something he may regret right now as the big man reportedly feels sorry for his former teammate.

While Chandler and the Mavs experience a solid season, Melo is stuck in the Big Apple with a struggling New York Knicks roster. Tyson Chandler admits he can’t help but feel sorry for Anthony’s situation as he told ESPN.

“I do because he’s a competitor,” said Chandler. “I laced them up and went to battle with him for the last three years and know what kind of competitor he is. […] I know he wants to win, and I know he’s going to take a lot of this heat. And it’s unfortunate because he’s a hell of a player in our league. It’s just unfortunate.”

If there is a silver lining for New York Knicks fans, it’s that Tyson Chandler does believe the team will turn the corner in the somewhat near future though that’s unlikely to happen until they add some new talent with their salary cap this coming offseason.

For now it looks to be more of the same for the Knicks and despite Tyson Chandler feeling bad for Carmelo Anthony, he’s likely happy for the trade as he went from one of the worst teams in the NBA to a potential title contender.

Hopefully with their newly available funds, the New York Knicks can return to the powerhouse franchise they once were because their overly loyal fan base deserves much more.
