It’s safe to say that there’s no middle ground when it comes to San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers – you either love or hate him.

For most outside of sunny Southern California, it’s the latter, but there’s no denying the signal caller is one of the toughest players in the NFL. Keep in mind, this is the same guy who played through a torn ACL.

Given that, his most recent injuries aren’t going to be enough to keep him off the field against the San Francisco 49ers on a rare Saturday evening game.

“Philip had an outstanding day,” coach Mike McCoy said. “A ball did not hit the ground in all the throws he made today. Philip was Philip, so he’ll be ready to roll.”

The San Diego Chargers quarterback isn’t one to talk about his injuries, let alone lead on that they may be impacting his game. There’s been talk Philip Rivers has been injured much of the season, but despite that he’s helped lead the Bolts to a solid 8-6 record as they sit in the thick of the playoff hunt.

If there’s any silver lining for Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers it’s that the San Francisco 49ers, without both Patrick Willis and NaVarro Bowman, aren’t the same elite defense as they were previously. That’s not a suggestion they’re a defense the Chargers will run over however, so Rivers and his bad back will need to be on his toes regardless.

Philip Rivers is yet to miss a game since being named the starting quarterback in 2006 and has played in 142 straight games, the second-longest active in the NFL.
