Is Dallas Eakins Headed Back To Toronto?
Dallas Eakins could head back to Toronto, where he has always found success
When the Edmonton Oilers fired head coach Dallas Eakins on December 15th, he became the fifth straight coach to fail at turning things around for the league laughingstocks — but most Toronto fans would be the first ones to tell you that he’s not the one to blame.

Before the Oilers brought him in to try and staunch the bleeding, Eakins had been one of the more successful coaches within Toronto’s administrative system.
Eakins has served as an assistant coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs themselves, but was in the midst of an extremely impressive stint heading the AHL Toronto Marlies when he was brought to Edmonton. He took the Marlies from the bottom of the AHL to the top in his brief time as head coach; Craig MacTavish and Kevin Lowe undoubtedly hoped he would bring the same success to an NHL team that hadn’t made the playoffs in close to a decade.
Now that he and those Oilers have parted ways, fans shouldn’t be surprised if he heads back to where he did the best; according to Hockey Night in Canada‘s Damien Cox, Dallas Eakins could easily pick up another position within the Leafs organization somewhere in no time.
The fact that the Maple Leafs seem so willing to bring Eakins back is good news for the coach, but it certainly doesn’t say good things to the Oilers — eventually, they might figure out that it’s not a coaching issue they have.
