There was a time when getting a ticket to Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks was nearly impossible. Now? You can get a ticket anywhere, literally. Don’t believe me? You might want to check out your local deals on Groupon if you’re in the New York area as you can secure tickets to a handful of games for nearly 50 percent off.
Presumably, hell has also frozen over and pigs might be flying the next time you go outside as the last thing you’d ever expect is to see New York Knicks tickets available on the discount website.
Sure, we’ve seen small market teams like the Sacramento Kings or Milwaukee Bucks use the service in effort to sell tickets but can you imagine the Los Angeles Lakers putting their tickets on Groupon? The Chicago Bulls?
Of course, in all reality there’s nothing wrong with doing so and it’s great for fans who normally couldn’t afford to attend a relatively pricy New York Knicks game, but it speaks volume as to how far the franchise has fallen.
If there is a silver lining though, it’s that the New York Knicks will have a significant amount of cap room at season end and can hopefully use such to build a formidable team that returns them to their former glory. Simply put, the NBA just isn’t the same without the New York Knicks being one of the better teams in the league.
Hopefully we’ll see a much improved Knicks team in the coming season or two and the addtional Groupon sales will help fund the effort to rid themselves of J.R. Smith.
