Wide receiver Mike Williams is a free agent. The Buffalo Bills have released him, per his request, off of injured reserve. He is now free to sign with another team.
The Bills acquired Williams from Tampa Bay in April for a sixth round pick. This was just a year after signing a big six-year, $40.25 million contract extension with the Buccaneers. His tenure in Buffalo didn’t last though, as he was cut by the Buffalo Bills on Monday afternoon after less than a season with the team.
Back in October, the Bills placed Williams on the waived/injured list. When he went unclaimed, he was placed on Injured Reserve.
Williams is now healthy, and is hoping to play again this season.
Williams played sparingly in the first five games of the season, and only managed eight receptions, 142 yards and one touchdown. Despite those stats, a healthy Williams is still a potential difference maker in the NFL.
In his five year career, Williams has 223 receptions, 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns. Those are impressive stats when you consider that he’s played his entire career without an elite quarterback. He’s also missed most of the last 1.5 seasons because of injuries.
It is uncertain if any team will be interested in Williams this late in the season. Seattle would appear to be an option on paper, given their issues at receiver and that Jermaine Kearse suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday
