After clinching the NFC East with a trouncing over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon, some speculated the Dallas Cowboys would let some (or all) of their starters rest in Week 17 against the Washington Redskins.
There’s no denying that quarterback Tony Romo and running back DeMarco Murray could use a week off to allow their bodies to recover, but that’s not the plan according to Jon Machota.
The Dallas Cowboys would still like to have that extra week of down time, but they’re hoping to get it by claiming stake to a first-round bye as they will play their starters against their divisional rival.
Jason Garrett says starters will play vs. Washington on Sunday

Perhaps the biggest question is how much will the Dallas Cowboys starters play? Will it only be a quarter just to keep their skills fresh? Or will Jason Garrett and company keep the starters on the field long as needed?
Keeping your star players/starters in a game which you’ve already clinched a playoff spot is a temperamental subject and one that usually has supporters on both sides. Some don’t want players to get rusty by sitting out while others believe resting players to avoid injury/get healthy is the better alternative.
There’s really no correct answer as both points of view have reasonable arguments. What’s most likely is the Dallas Cowboys hoping to get an early lead and being able to coast from there, without any injury of course.
