On Christmas Day, LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers will make their way to South Beach where they’ll take on the Miami Heat for the first time this season.
It also marks the first time (outside of preseason tilt in Brazil) where James has played against his former team.
So how will the Miami based crowd react to LeBron James’ return? Nobody really knows, though former teammate and good friend Dwyane Wade hopes those in attendance will appreciate what James did for the franchise.
“At the end of the day, the guy is an amazing basketball player and everyone is a fan of the game,” Wade said. “So ‘oohs and ahhs,’ they come before boos sometimes. I hope our fans are just appreciative of what he brought to this organization in four years.”
Despite the fact that Dwyane Wade hopes fans will effectively ‘thank’ James for his time in South Beach, he’s fully aware that some in the crowd will boo the former NBA MVP though hopes it won’t last very long.
We’ve seen All-Star level players leave their former franchise only to return and be greeted with cheers followed by boos once the game starts, which is likely the scenario facing LeBron James. Of course we’ve never seen a player of his stature go through such a process, so perhaps things will be different for The King.
We’ll soon find out as James’ Cavs and Wade’s Miami Heat will highlight the holiday assortment of games.
