While there are a handful of teams said to have interest in signing Josh Smith, who was released by the Detroit Pistons, some of them aren’t in a playoff race.
That would include the Sacramento Kings, who’ve been linked to Smith for quite some time after multiple attempts to trade for the forward.
Despite that, it sounds as if Josh Smith doesn’t have any interest in playing in California’s capital nor any other franchise who isn’t destined for a playoff appearance this season.
It’s a pretty understandable stance and nobody really wants to join a sub par team when teams like the Houston Rockets are said to have extremely strong interest. Still, you’d think Josh Smith would keep his options open simply from a negotiation standpoint.
Perhaps the fact that only one team has enough money to claim Josh Smith off waivers is playing into such a fact and he’s under the impression he’ll be able to choose which franchise he plays for once the waiver process comes to an end.
For now though it looks like those teams hoping to enter the Josh Smith sweepstakes without a chance at making the playoffs will be on the outside looking in.
Smith will become a free agent and eligible to sign wherever he likes assuming he passes waivers which are to conclude in 48-hours.
