Before any big game, there’s almost always one player on every roster that takes it upon himself to energize his teammates. Sometimes it’s a chant. Sometimes it’s a dance. Sometimes it’s a stern talking to. Whatever it might be, it’s a blast to watch and even more enjoyable to be part of.
It’s an event Memphis Tigers tight end Alan Cross takes to heart and one that he routinely leads. He did the same during before kickoff of the Miami Beach Bowl game between his Tigers and the BYU Cougars, though might be having second thoughts now that the adrenaline has calmed down.
Entretched in a circle, Cross began yelling at his teammates in hopes of pumping them up and without wearing a helmet, decided to start headbutting his Memphis teammates.
Yes, Cross, without any type of protection, drove his forehead into his teammates who were wearing protection. The end result? A lot of blood.
Those weren’t little shots to the head either, those were full massive blows. Even crazier was that when Cross didn’t like the ‘softer’ impacts, he went back for a second round.
Soon after the headbutting came to a conclusion, a mildly dazed looking Alan Cross emerged from the huddle and looked a bit perplexed as to why he was covered in blood.
Probably not his best idea ever, though it made for great television.
