Amid injuries to their top two starters, the Cleveland Browns might have to turn to veteran Tyler Thigpen to at least serve as a backup.
You know things are bad when Rex Grossman is telling you, “No, thanks.”

With Johnny Manziel officially ruled out for Week 17 and Brian Hoyer’s status uncertain, the Cleveland Browns need someone to play quarterback, or at least back up third stringer Connor Shaw.
After Grossman declined such an opportunity, word has spread that the team is looking into 30 year old journeyman Tyler Thigpen, who practiced with the team this past summer.
Of the two top quarterbacks, Brian Hoyer is the more likely to actually make a go at it. While he’s nursing a sore shoulder after having it landed on in Week 16, there’s still a chance for Hoyer, unlike Manziel whose hamstring injury was described as serious.
So if Hoyer can’t go, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the team will likely turn to Thigpen, which should be a wonderful addition for a team that has nothing to play for in Week 17.
Thigpen attended the team’s training camp, but was cut after the first preseason game in favor of Rex Grossman, who stands to make just over $50,000 for the week if he does suit up for Cleveland.
Practice squad rookie Connor Shaw will likely get the start if Hoyer can’t go, with Thigpen backing him up.
