Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel said it would be “unfair” if the Browns got rid of him after this season.

Johnny Manziel’s rookie season hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

Manziel backed up Brian Hoyer for the majority of the year, only receiving two starts and suffering a season-ending injury in the second start. And when the rookie QB was on the field, he struggled, finishing the season 18-of-35 for 175 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions.

However, Manziel believes he deserves more time, suggesting it would be “unfair” if the Browns looked to move away from his as the quarterback of the future.

It’s hard to argue with Manziel here. If the Browns are willing to give up on Manziel after 35 passes, they should have never been willing to spend a first-round pick on him in the first place.

That said, Manziel clearly has a lot he needs to put in a lot of work during the offseason if he truly wants to be the Browns’ quarterback for years to come.

Good news for Cleveland: Manziel says he’s committed to doing just that.

The Browns selected Manziel with the No. 22 pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.
