San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick might start working with a new throwing coach very shortly.

Things have been rough lately for San Francisco 49ers fans. Your head coach is about to leave; whether for another NFL team, or for the University of Michigan remains to be seen. The team will need to win next week in order to avoid its first losing season since the end of the Mike Singletary era in 2010. All the while, Colin Kaepernick continues to struggle in finding consistency behind center.

Well, with the imminent departure of Jim Harbaugh looming, Kaepernick will need to find another mentor, should he seek to improve his game through quarterback coaching. On the season, he has completed just 60.6 percent of his passes for 17 TD, 10 INT, 3,165 yards, and an 85.1 passer rating. Though his accuracy and yardage totals are likely to finish ahead of last year’s numbers, Kaepernick knows that he needs to get better should his team want to move forward. The team is currently sitting at 7-8 on the season, good enough for 3rd place in the extremely competitive NFC West. They were eliminated from post-season contention in week 15.

Regarding the chances of working with an independent QB coach, Kaepernick had the following to say. “That’s still in the works. Just working on possibilities right now,” the 49ers QB continued. “It’s hard to break habits in season. You don’t want to completely try to change something because it can throw off everything else you’re doing.”

“There’s always things you can tighten up.”
