The Oklahoma City Thunder are taking on the San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day, though they’ll have to do so without superstar Kevin Durant. The NBA’s most valuable player has been dealing with a sprain injury.
From CBS Sports:
"The Thunder listed forward Kevin Durant as out for Thursday’s game at San Antonio, reports The Oklahoman. “His status could change, but for now the team is listing him as out,” the paper said."
This isn’t necessarily astonishing, it will be the fourth straight game he has missed because of this injury. Durant has only played in nine games all season, and he is averaging 22.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists when he does play.
Durant has also missed 17 games this season because of a foot injury, and the Thunder are reeling in his absence. Right now the Thunder sit in 10th place in the Western Conference with a sub-.500 record. The Thunder have also been without point guard Russell Westbrook for roughly half their season so far, which hasn’t helped them either.
If Durant can get healthy and back on the court they could still contend for a playoff spot entering the second half of the season.
