Karlos Dansby Believes Johnny Manziel Wasted Rookie Year
By Evan Massey
Karlos Dansby believes that Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel wasted his rookie season.
The Cleveland Browns came into the season extremely excited about being able to snag quarterback Johnny Manziel late in the first round of the 2014 NFL Dcarraft. Manziel was an absolute superstar in college at Texas A&M, and the Browns were hoping that he could turn into their future at the quarterback position.

Manziel finally got his first start in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but came up with a complete flop of a game. He started in Week 16 as well against the Carolina Panthers. In those two games, he ended up throwing for just 112 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Obviously his rookie season was a major disappointment, and it even ended with an injured hamstring. The Browns are now left to question whether or not they should bring Brian Hoyer back next season, or if if they should target someone else on the trade or free agent market. Manziel still has a lot of potential and could turn things around, but he is making things much more difficult than they would have been if he could have come through with at least one quality start.
Browns’ linebacker Karlos Dansby believes that Manziel completely wasted his rookie season.
"“When you’re a first-round pick, you’ve got to c’mon, man. They’ve got to reset their goals and they’ve got to do it fast. Like Johnny said the same thing, it’s a wasted year for him. That’s how he feels. He’s like ‘Damn, I’ve got to take this more seriously. I’ve wasted all this time.’ That’s basically what he’s saying. So it’s like ‘Don’t waste your time man, because it’s precious bro. You never know when you’re going to be done. You’re one play away from never playing this game again.”’"
"“But that’s the thing with a lot of rookies these days. Their only goal is to get into the NFL. They want the glam and the flash but they’re not willing to put in the grind and the work and the time in order to be great. They want it to just fall in their lap and it doesn’t happen like that.”"
Dansby is 100 percent right about the attitude that rookies come into the NFL with now days, and it is a major issue. It was obvious during Manziel’s first start that he came in a bit cocky, and the Bengals’ defense shut him out and humbled him quickly.
It’s a tough lesson to learn that way, but this offseason has to be a time where Manziel realizes that he wants to succeed and puts in the work to get to that point. Cleveland really needs him to come back next season as the playmaking quarterback he can be. The fans are going to be on the edge of their seat to hear updates on Manziel throughout the offseason, and hopefully they aren’t disappointed.
