Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Connor Shaw has officially been elevated to the 53-man roster.

Former South Carolina star quarterback Connor Shaw is preparing to make his first career NFL start this week against the Baltimore Ravens. He has yet to play in an NFL game, but was officially elevated to the active 53-man roster in preparation for his start.

More from Cleveland Browns

Needless to say, this is just another piece of news in a long season for the Browns’ fan base. What once looked like a legitimate playoff contending team, has now gone through their third quarterback in the season. Cleveland fans just can’t catch a break no matter where they turn at the quarterback position.

Shaw has spent the season on the Browns’ practice squad, and wasn’t expecting to have a chance to start this year. He is the all-time winningest quarterback in South Carolina Gamecocks’ history, leading them to a 27-5 record as a starter. The media talked with Shaw about how he feels about his first NFL start and what he’s going to do on the field Sunday.

"“I’m just going to go play. With my capability and my style of play, nothing’s going to change. I’m not in garnet and black anymore. I’m in white and brown and orange. It’s football at the end of the day.”"

It will be very intriguing to see what type of numbers he turns out this week against the Ravens. He isn’t expected to be a part of the Browns’ future at the quarterback position, but if he can come through with a big performance that mindset might change. Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer certainly weren’t consistent, and a big game from Shaw could put him in the running for a job next season.

That being said, it’s going to be a very difficult position for Shaw to be in against a Ravens team searching for a playoff spot. They are going to bring as much pressure at him as they can, and the Browns haven’t shown the ability to protect their quarterback. Shaw is confident in his ability, but like he said, this isn’t South Carolina anymore.
